“How To Be A Serious Researcher,” my infamous after-dinner speech at QIP’2006, is now available as an mp3 (5MB, 21 minutes). If you want to tar-and-feather me for this, don’t forget Ben Toner (who made the recording) or Julia Kempe (who sent the photo).

I am glad to hear that you avoided the freedom fries jokes.
I think I can identify half of the laughs in the background!

“I am glad to hear that you avoided the freedom fries jokes.”
No, they’re just hard to make out over the applause.
At the beginning: “Bonjour, y’all!”
At the end: “Merci! Bonjour! Je ne comprends pas! Oui! Croissant!”

When I was in Paris, my favorite phrase was “Je m’apelle Bon Jour”.

If you typed your speech, it would be nice to see a transcript. A lot of it is hard to hear. If not, nevermind.

Sorry, there’s no typewritten version. I scrawled the speech on a notepad at the conference (during the coffee breaks, of course — never during the talks).
